Description: In the Arctic regions of North America, called Inuit Nunangat, lives the Inuit people, related to the Yupit, Yupiks, from Alaska and Siberia. The Yupik Eskimos make, while producing certain traditional conventions, ceremonial masks in very diverse sizes and forms. On each occasion, often inspired by a dream, the shaman tells the sculptor the function and the form of the required mask, which he himself will wear. The masks are connected to the souls (yua) of various animals or fish, which must be honored through rituals. Dim 32 x 21 x 14 cm, 492 gram. Rarely offered on the market. Stand not included.
