Description
This mask is made from the Lingzhi mushroom (Ganoderma Lucidum), a fungus that grows on local trees. The material is lightly processed to give it a human appearance with strong apotropaic properties: these masks are worn ritually to ward off evil spirits, or they are hung near doors and windows because they are considered benevolent deities incarnate or representatives of the ancestors , and therefore as protectors of the home and family. It is also used during shamanic invocation ceremonies as useful protection against the magical forces of evil.
The mask is in excellent condition and has a hard consistency. The appearance of the mask is disturbing but certainly fascinating and radiates great power. 22 x 18 x 9 cm, 192 gram, stand not included.
