Notes: From the folio, Pablo Picasso, Suite Vollard, Herausgegeben vom Stadtischen Museum Mulheim an der Ruhr in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Forderkreis des Museums, 1992. Published by Kunstmuseum Mulheim, Ruhr; printed by Plitt Druck- und Verlag GmbH, Duisburg, 1992. Excerpted from the folio (translated from German), Between 1930 and 1937, there were created at the instigation of the art dealer, Ambroise Vollard, C, printed graphic sheets by Pablo Picasso, which have entered the history of art under the name "Suite Vollard". In 1939, the "Suite Vollard" appeared in two different formats, the large version (50.0 x 38.5 cm) in a print run of L prints per sheet and the small version (44.5 x 34.0 cm) in a print run of CCL examples. Only a few of these series have remained united to this day, most are scattered as single sheets in different private and public collections. Although the long history of the "Suite Vollard", which extended over several years, and although its thematically multifaceted structure and technical diversity, which combines the most diverse reproduction processes such as etching, cold needle, aquatinta, etc., has favored this isolation of the leaves, the entirety of the "Suite Vollard" in its sporadic but still tangible context represents one of the most important art historical testimonies of the 20th century. In loose, substantive groupings such as "Sculptor and Model", the "Minotaur Episode" or the "Rembrandt Leaves" the multifaceted spectrum of the different themes that were important for the artistic work of Pablo Picasso in those years appears. Often caused by external events, such as the design of the cover page for the newly founded magazine "Minotaure", the sheets, as well as their summary of a series by the long-time art dealer and publisher of Picasso, Ambroise Vollard, are rather coincidental and do not follow a stringy logic of a picture or text template. Precisely for this reason, however, this series gives, like hardly any other print-graphic work by Pablo Picasso, insight into the complexity of his material and form fantasy, into the brilliance of his craftsmanship, into his irrepressible joy of experimentation and into the inner logic of his artistic creation. Spontaneously and discontinuously as these leaves have arisen, often eruptively in creative bursts, in which, for example, eleven of the present sheets have been completed in only four days, this series breathes that spirit of freedom, generosity and unboundness, which is the prerequisite for any creative metamorphosis. Subtle and sophisticated, confident and virtuoso, banal occasions, private experiences, intimate reflections, artistic disputes, which suddenly appear suddenly appear as in a diary, sink again, in order to reappear after months or years, into motifs and themes that are in an inner context and are intertwined, even if these underlying and underlying connections escape the constructions of an external logic through space and time. In order to provide a wide public with access to this unique printed work by Pablo Picasso in its entirety and also at the highest qualitative level, the Forderkreis fur das Stadt. Museum Mulheim an der Ruhr initiated the new edition of the "Suite Vollard" and significantly supported it. The reprint of the "Suite Vollard" includes CCC examples of C loose sheets, each in a linen cassette. The numbering of the examples was made from I-CCC on the front page. The plates were produced in grain screen mode, a process in which the conventional line grid is omitted and the highest original prose is achieved. The paper was handcrafted by Richard de Bas in Ambert, France, one of the most traditional paper mills in Europe, especially for this plant. The paper of the original edition also comes from this manufactory. The quality Blanc narcisse, belin, 200 g/sqm, was selected and imported by Japico Drissler Feinpapiere, Frankfurt. Reproduction and paper format was slightly reduced compared to the original edition. The technical development and the overall production was carried out by Plitt Druck- und Verlag GmbH, 4200 Oberhausen. PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, and theatre designer who spent most of his adult life in France. One of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and the anti-war painting Guernica (1937), a dramatic portrayal of the bombing of Guernica by German and Italian air forces during the Spanish Civil War. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became one of the best-known figures in 20th-century art. In May 2015, Pablo Picasso's painting, Les Femmes d'Alger (Version O), sold for $179.4 million USD at Christie's New York, setting a world record for the artist.
