Excerpted from the volume (translated from German), Oskar Kokoschka's sketchbook of the Italian Journey was created between the 14th and 28th.
May 1963, Rolf Horn Collection and Foundation, XVII color drawings in a separate sketchbook with spiral stitching, sheet size 31.8 x 23.9 cm, as well as III color pencil drawings on 2 individual sheets, sheet size 35.3 x 25.4 cm.
On the envelope cover at a later time from the memory of the artist designated and monogrammed: Naples; Paestum; Pompeii; Tarent, April - May 1963 (sic!).
This designation is reproduced in the facsimile on the title page, but without the erroneous indication 'April'.
The order chosen in this publication according to the groups belonging together corresponds to their temporal origin; it is not completely identical to the original sheet context of the sketchbook.

The original lithograph "Fighting Warrior", which is included in the preferential editions, was drawn by Oskar Kokoschka in 1969 after a detail of the temple friece of Bassae, British Museum, London.
The printing was provided in 1969/70 by the Graphische Anstalt Wolfensberger, Zurich.
The edition from the artist's archive was provided by Ms.
Olda Kokoschka for the preferred editions of the present publication.
This book is published in an edition of DCCCL examples.
For this purpose, three preferential editions will be published: Issue AXXV examples with the lithography Kmpfender Kriegers, printed in black, on Japon-Btten, all examples monogrammed in stone, Roman numbered by I-XXV.
and signed by the artist.
Issue B LXXV examples with the lithograph Kmpfender Kriegers, printed in red, on Btten, all examples monogrammed in stone, Arabic numbered from I-LXXV and signed by the artist.
