A single hand-painted porcelain trinket box made in Limoges, France. The box is formed as an elephant figure mounted on an oval base, hinged and secured with gilt metal fittings. The elephant figure serves as the lid and is decorated in white and turquoise-green enamel, featuring a repeating scale or fishnet pattern across the body. Gold gilt detailing accents the elephant's tusks and feet while the interior bottom features hand-painted green foliate motifs. The oval base is mounted with a gilt metal band and features a hinged clasp formed by a small, raised brass elephant figurine. The underside of the base is inscribed Peint main Limoges France and is initialed MY.
