Hetian Jade Openwork Dragon Pattern Jade Plate, D: 9.4cm, T: 1.6cm, 157.5g. Carved in imperial jade carving workshops from the Yuan to the Ming Dynasty, it was a royal costume or display accessory made of Hetian bluish white jade with natural reddish brown patina. Adopting the multi-layer openwork carving technique to depict cloud dragon patterns, it features distinct layers, smooth lines, moist jade texture and natural patina, embodying the "bold and magnificent" characteristic of Yuan Dynasty jade carving. Hetian jade openwork dragon pattern jade plates from the Yuan to the Ming Dynasty (1271–1644) are rare in existence with exquisite craftsmanship, serving as an important physical object for the study of ancient costumes and jade carving techniques, with extremely high historical and artistic values.
