Painted Stone Horse, 28cm in length, 8cm in width and 37cm in height. Unearthed from an aristocratic tomb of the Northern Wei to Tang Dynasty and later collected in private hands. Blue stone with residual mineral pigments on the surface. Carved using round carving technique, the horse stands with well-preserved painted saddle and bridle, smooth lines and a vivid expression, embodying the characteristic of "realism and vividness" of sculpture from the Northern Wei to Tang Dynasty. Northern Wei to Tang Dynasty (386–907). Surviving painted stone horses from the Northern Wei to Tang Dynasty are extremely rare, being an important relic of the ancient funeral culture, having extremely high historical and artistic values, and being cherished by museums and senior collectors.
