This miniature, double-lidded picnic basket measures 5 3/8” x 3 ¼” x 6 ¾” to the top of the handle. It was originally thought that baskets such as this one were made by the Shakers for sale “to the world” at the stores in the Shaker communities in the Northeast; later research concluded that while they were sold by the Shakers, they were actually imported from Eastern Europe. The basket shows incredible workmanship, including the double diamond design worked into the sides. It is in excellent, original condition with no breaks or holes. There may have been small strings tied into the clasps that hold the lid in place, but the basket is very tight and makes an excellent addition to any basket collection!
