Description
Designed circa 1960 by Pierre Jeanneret for public and administrative buildings in Chandigarh, India, this rare “Handwriting” chair is crafted in solid teak with a distinctive angular frame. The seat and backrest are woven in traditional cane, offering breathable comfort and visual lightness. The right armrest extends forward to form a writing surface, reflecting its functional purpose in institutional settings. The legs are constructed in Jeanneret’s signature “V” form, joined by a low stretcher shelf. Bearing stenciled inventory marks beneath the seat, the chair exhibits an aged patina, wear to the cane, and surface marks consistent with prolonged institutional use, embodying both utilitarian design and architectural heritage.
