
Description
This whimsical child's christening cup is created in gorgeous sterling silver and was made by Grogan Company of Pittsburgh, PA in production from 1890-1930. They apparently made and sold high end silver and jewelry. This beautiful cup has an incredible design with an oblong cartouche surrounded by a shield with the initials "SC." The shield is flanked by two storks heralding the baby's arrival on June 15, 1934 and a small clock with the time of 4:10 PM. The right panel shows the stork making his delivery to a lovely house with the baby supported in a sling from the stork's beak, complete with a brick chimney and trees. The left panel shows the stork flying over a magnificent church steeple. The handle is "C" shaped with an elegant curve and the lip has a rolled, graduated edge. Hallmarks are: Grogan Company, L, Sterling, 3355. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Height from top to bottom=3 inches, Width including handle=3-7/8 inches, Volume=8 fluid ounces, Weight=3.86 Troy ounces. This marvelous child's cup has been well cared for, gently used and is in excellent antique condition. free from dents, damage or repairs. The upper lip has some scratching and notches, most likely teeth marks. They actually look like a pattern. There is some light scratching which does not diminish the beauty or usability of this lovely cup. It is the perfect addition to your silver cup collection or as a newborn gift, particularly if you like storks!
