This marvelous antique apostle serving spoon is created in gorgeous sterling silver and was made by John Aldwinckle & Thomas Slater, London silversmiths. St. John is the apostle that stands atop a square handle that merges into a beautiful engraved acanthus leaf. The large, slightly fig shaped bowl is a substantial size for serving any number of delicious sides. Apostle spoons were historically given to a baby from his godparents, to be used for the baptismal anointing. However, most are currently used and serving spoons. Hallmarks are: JA over TS=John Aldwinckle & Thomas Slater, Rampant Lion=English sterling, Leopard with a crown=London, Date letter S=1893. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Length from top to bottom=7-1/2 inches, Width of bowl from side to side=2-3/8 inches, Depth=1/2 inch. Weight=1.607 Troy ounces. This marvelous sterling silver serving spoon has been well cared for, gently used and is in excellent antique condition, free from cracks or repairs. There is very light surface scratching on the bowl, commensurate with age and use, but it does not diminish the beauty or usability of this gorgeous spoon! It is the perfect addition to your serving collection, particularly if you like historic English designs.
