A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-Three Stations of the TÅkaidÅ Road".
Twenty-second station: Fujieda. In the title block: "Station of men and horses". Tired bearers are seen wiping themselves dry, while others wait for them to leave. On the right, the dispatcher's employee checks the papers. On the middle box is written the name of the Hoeido Publishing House. On the left, a man is loading a horse, he is wearing a belly band with the two characters Takenouchi, the name of the owner of the publishing house.
This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed.
Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XXIII.
Nearly excellent condition - minor edge wear, it was pinned in the past, two tiny holes very close to the top corners were smoothed, never framed.
