A vintage reproduction print of antique Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige, from his series, "The Fifty-three Stations of the TÅkaidÅ Road".
Thirty-Seventh Station: Fujikawa. In the title block: "The Head of the Procession". The horses sent by the Shogun to Kyoto preceded by the official escort enter the Fujikawa village. They carry on their backs the "gohei", a sacred Shinto symbol, to protect them. The village authorities kneel to greet the Edo officials.
This reproduction print is not a woodblock reproduction, but offset, full-color print. Detailed.
Comes from a rare art folio published by Editions du Credit Lyonnais in Paris, France, in 1960. Printed in France, on one side of high quality heavy paper. Blank back, numbered on the back: XXXVIII.
