This picture seems to capture the supple strength of a woman. She is crushable in the only way water dashed against the rock is crushable, which means she has the power to survive under any condition. The large bamboo hat is elegant, the flowing garment tucked up bares pretty ankles. Harunobu's women are often called stylized mannequins but they have all the suspended energies of the living women, only more beautiful.
