A gush of wind scattering the petal of wistaria is threatening to tear off the black headwear. The girl is trying to hang on to her skirt peeling up. In this unique composition, extremely limited in space lengthwise, KIYONAGA captures the captivating lines of the girl being harassed by a gush of wind. The late poet Yonejiro Noguchi considers this piece the very best of KIYONAGA, quite justly. The color of the girl's dress is agreeably matched with the lavender of the wistaria. The motif of this picture has a touch of risqué about it, and it provides an example of successful experiment in kind for some other Ukiyo-e painters including UTAMARO.
