Description
This vintage French soup tureen from the Lorrain region of France has quite a lot of personality! Doesn't it take you right back to a dinner party you attended in the 1970s?
This tureen was designed by Mottahedeh for the well known Sarreguemines Pottery Company, which was an important producer of Majolica Pottery. The company was also known for its vibrant colors and creamy glazes, as well as for having produced the tiles for the Paris Subway in 1860. This chartreuse tureen is made of a faience clay, and was hand-glazed prior to firing. It represents a less common Sarreguemines Pottery genre in its simple modern lines, which is a clear departure from the company's well branded Majolica.
The Sarreguemines Pottery Company was established in 1784 and was in full production until 2007, when it closed its doors. This fish tureen is no longer available on the retail market. It's in excellent condition.
