1930s Handpainted & Signed Cyril Gorainoff for Abercrombie & Fitch Fox Hunt Equestrian Scenes Footed Liqueur, Cordial or Shot Glass Set
Not Today, Huntsman
Through thickets we galloped with flair,
Till I paused for a dram mid the air.
My flask met my lip"”
Then I lost my firm grip,
Seems the horse felt the fox should be spared.
Hand-painted by the artist Cyril Gorainoff exclusively for Abercrombie & Fitch in the 1930s, these glasses feature a lovely finish and gold rims. The fox hunt or fox chase themed small, footed port, sherry, or other liqueur glasses could also serve as petite flower arrangement vases. These satirical glasses depict a rider in traditional hunting gear leading his horse to the field, taking a drink from a liquor bottle (must have missed the stirrup cup!), and being thrown from his horse. The equestrian barware measures 3 3/8" high by 2 5/8" in diameter across the top rims and hold almost 4 ounces.
Condition:
Alterations: Original Condition Unaltered
Imperfections: Some Imperfections
Condition Notes: This vintage set is in nice condition, showing some age-appropriate wear. The gold trim has a minor loss, but the hand-painted scenes remain beautiful, and the signatures are still legible. One of the glasses, featuring a rider taking a drink, has a hairline vertical crack (see photo) but does not leak. Overall, this is a lovely antique set.
