A lovely full color print after watercolor on paper with plaster of Paris base painting "Zoological Gardens" by Paul Klee. Comes from a rare art folio published by Crown Publishers in Italy in 1969. Printed on one side. Hand tipped-in on a sheet of paper. Numbered: III, came of the artwork is printed below the image. Information on the back of paper is related to another piece in the folio. Excellent condition - never framed.

A picture garden rather than the picture of a garden. But entirely garden. Strictly drawn paths, earth planes, flower beds in carefully placed proximity, something blue that might be water, an elegant green plant, everything spread like a plane, like a warm, gayly figured carpet. Something spacial is there too, even houses, roofs, window-crosses. And also like flat carpetlike figures a cool, blue zone of air in contrast to the earthly brown of the garden. A few animals make of this region a zoological garden. Perhaps they experience the garden as the artist presents it to us, as the picture of an order, which they do not see through, as an entangled order. With profound wisdom the catlike animal in the foreground looks at us, captured in the play of natural forces and nearer to their secret than we with our gardner's care This earthly carrying-on is without a secret for the eye which stands in great innocence over everything and watches and plans and whose clearer meaning is left to the observer.
