Large Mid-Century Black Resin and Maple Inlaid "Loaf"/Carafe"/"And Thou" Cheese Board by Couroc

Description

Large tray with Vermont maple cheese board panel by Couroc of Monterey, California (circa 1960s).
Composed of a black lacquer phenolic resin (water, burn, stain, and detergent resistant plastic) with inlaid wood, pigment and brass accents depicting a jug of wine, a loaf of bread and text reading "and thou." Imagery is interpreted from a poem by the renowned Persian mathematician and astronomer, Omar Khayyam. The abridged version of a stanza in his "Rubaiyat" is commonly condensed to, "˜A Jug of Wine, A loaf of Bread"”and Thou.'
Retains the Couroc manufacturer's foil label.
Very good, vintage condition.
