Amazing antique Meiji era pair of Japanese silk scroll paintings by Sekkou Matsudaira (1834-1916). Depicting scenes with two of Red-Crowned Cranes and Turtle family. Watercolor and ink on silk. Masterfully done. Very detailed. Beautifully mounted on silk. Signed and sealed by the artist in ink. Comes in original wooden case. Both scrolls can be trimmed at the lower edge of the dark brown border, which can be brought down to hide water stains. Good condition for age overall - some age wear, water stains, light creases, both roller ends (weights) are missing side cups, age wear and chip on wooden case. Can be carefully ironed with a hot dry iron to smooth the creases. Japan, Meiji Era, c. 1900s.
