Description
The oil painting on canvas titled "Evening at Sea" captures the serene yet emotionally stirring essence of a sunset voyage across calm waters. This visually striking artwork transports the viewer into a tranquil maritime moment where light, color, and motion are delicately interwoven to create an atmosphere of introspection and quiet beauty. At the center of the composition sails a lone boat, its tall mast and billowing sails etched in hues of violet, blue, and soft gray, touched by the golden glow of the setting sun. The boat is silhouetted against a radiant horizon, subtly reflecting on the water’s surface. The figure aboard, standing close to the edge of the deck, adds a narrative element of solitude or perhaps a meditative pause. The gentle detailing of the sailor’s posture invites viewers to imagine the thoughts carried by someone drifting into the heart of twilight. The sun, depicted low on the horizon, casts a long, shimmering reflection that glides across the gently rippling sea. This reflection is a masterstroke in the painting, rendered with warm tones of orange, coral, and hints of gold that dance on the water’s surface. The contrast between the glowing path of light and the cooler, shadowed waves around it provides depth and movement, leading the viewer’s eye inward and creating a sense of dimensionality and space. The sky above is a breathtaking display of pastel layers — lavender, rose, peach, and hints of dusky blue — seamlessly blended to evoke the fleeting moment when day meets night. Wisps of cloud drift softly, while a flock of birds glides across the warm-toned atmosphere, adding a subtle sense of motion and life to the peaceful expanse. This aerial movement echoes the gentle glide of the boat, enhancing the rhythmic harmony of the scene. The artist’s brushwork is expressive yet refined, with smooth gradations in the sky and purposeful texture in the water and sails. The hardboard surface allows the color layers to remain vibrant and bold, enhancing the luminosity and saturation that are essential to conveying the warmth and glow of a sunset at sea.

About the artist: I, Pereta Vyacheslav Nikolaevich, was born on March 30, 1977 in the city of Dubno, Rivne region.
From early childhood I spent many hours drawing, which prompted my parents to enroll me in an art school.
Over the years, my passion grew into an internal need, and I began to think about the career of an artist. The basics of art education were given to me by my father, then there were preparatory courses at the Academy and in 2002 I entered the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture at the Faculty of Painting.
I studied with great enthusiasm, took an active part in academic exhibitions and competitions, and was awarded. From the third year of study, I was enrolled in the workshop of Professor Gurin V.I. , my teachers were Golembievskaya T. and Zorko A. I defended my bachelor's degree with the painting “Spring”, which was subsequently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art.
I graduated from NAOMA in 2008 and actively engaged in creative activities. In 2011-2012. performed four historical paintings for the Ministry of Culture of Macedonia. Held a number of personal and collective exhibitions, including in Cherkasy and Simferopol art museums. In 2012 he was admitted to the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
My inner world has always warmly responded to the work of impressionist artists, and among domestic masters I am fascinated by the works of K. Korovin, F. Zakharov, N. Glushchenko. A sharp and interesting compositional solution, subtle color relationships, which are decisive in creating the “mood” of a picture, are those tasks that excite me the most. My works are in private collections in Ukraine and abroad. I live in the city of Dubno, Rivne region.
