Late Meiji (1890s to 1910s) small Japanese wooden okimono for a home altar in a shape of Ebisu - one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune, that of fishing - with a large sea bream under his arm. Cleverly carved in ittobori (one cut) style typical for the Hida school, painted in bright colors (some losses to paint). Signed RYOSO on the bottom - this netsuke artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 511, number 2073). Height 2.12 inches.
