Description
19th century Japanese sword kashira (metal pommel at the end of the hilt of a Japanese sword) made in early 1930s into an obidome. Kashira design depicts a shishi (Buddhist lion) frolicking on the rocks by pine saplings on the rocks, all on finely textured ground called nanako, which means “fish-eggs” as it resembles fine rows of caviar. Nice quality work with gilding (some wear), wonderful feel of age. Nicely made back with 2 loops on the back for an obi cord. Stamped with letters S.M. on the back. Length 1.42 inches.
