Unusually high quality 19th century carved horn netsuke of a sitting man about to sneeze. The scene represents a street entertainer, in this case a man who tickles himself with a stick and sneezes for the audience. Remarkably crisp treatment of the figure, excellent with his teeth showing, lacquered with dark lacquer. Signed UWASA on the bottom - this rare artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 547, number 3166). Sneezer by horn, lacquer Height 1.41 inches.
