Late Meiji to early Showa (1910s - 1930s) Japanese pottery kogo (box for holding incense during tea ceremony) in a form of a crouching rat. Wonderful piece in Japanese taste, Bizen ware with typical color, great potting perfectly capturing the essence of the creature. Inscribed on the bottom by the potter, very nice patina. Length 2.5 inches.
