19th century Japanese cinnabar lacquer 4-compartment inro carved with 2 scenes of Chinese scholars in conversation and with an attendant under a pine tree, the sides with rocks and plants, and top and Bottom with auspicious symbols. Wonderful quality carving on black lacquer- see their faces, minute brocade background, flow of their robes and pine needles. Nishiji lacquer interior, in superb condition without any losses or cracks, old silk cord. Signed KIHAN SAKU (made by Kihan) on the paper label inside. Height 2.63 inches.
