Late 19th century Japanese hanging scroll in ink and colors on paper depicting young Yoshitsune and Benkei on the Gojo bridge in Kyoto, with a full moon lighting the scene. Minamoto no Yoshitsune was a brilliant 12th-century samurai warrior, while Benkei was a powerful warrior monk who became Yoshitsune's devoted right-hand man after their encounter on the bridge, and eventually died defending Yoshitsune. Crisply painted, superb detailing, rich use of color. Signed and sealed by the artist. Painting size 20 x 14 inches, scroll size 50 x 25 inches.
