This is an original World War II German Army (Heer) second pattern Afrikakorps (DAK) tropical pith helmet.
It was worn by German forces in tropical climates, including North Africa, Italy, and the Mediterranean.
The helmet is constructed of a felt-like material with a leather chinstrap and edge trim.
It features two identification shields: the national eagle on one side and the national tri-color on the other, as seen in the image.
These helmets were part of the standard uniform issued by various branches of the German military during WWII.
