Description
The banknote shown is a 500-dollar Federal Reserve Note from the 1934 series. These banknotes, although still legal tender, are no longer in circulation and have a collector's value far exceeding their denomination. On the obverse of the banknote there is a portrait of the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley. These banknotes were originally intended primarily for interbank transactions, not for public use. They have a green treasury seal and serial numbers. The collector's value of the banknote depends on its state of preservation, with copies in very good condition (Very Fine) reaching prices from $1,200 to $1,600, and in excellent condition (Extremely Fine) even over $2,000. The $500 banknotes from 1934 are popular with collectors and investors.
