Fantastic Orientalist painting, probably early/mid 20th century.

Large-scale scene of an Arabic walled city with a procession of people walking and riders on camels entering through the arched gate at right and into the gate at left toward the mosque, which is crowned with a classic dome and minaret topped with a crescent moon in traditional Islamic architectural style. The colors€”red fabrics, green palm trees set against the blue and off-white background€”are vivid. The gilt wood frame is beautifully carved in an Art Nouveau style. Signed bottom right, but not decipherable. It looks like Jh Sambret or Th Sambret.
