Description
Late 19th-century Rhode Island still life of oranges and grapes. Possibly attributed to Edward Chalmers Leavitt (1842-1904) or similar artist, unsigned. Luscious green and purple grapes draping among oranges in delicious fiery colors and the mound of fruit nestled among dark green leaves. The canvas is purchased from the well-documented 19th century Charles G. Calder art supply gallery in Providence, Rhode Island, as shown on the label on the back frame. Also, on the back, in pencil is written: "A Hurbert Arnold"--- possibly the owner who had it framed ("Arnold" is a very prominent Rhode Island name with an extensive history). The frame is ornate gilt wood and gesso.
