Description
antique Middle Eastern brass container featuring intricate silver inlay work, often referred to as "Cairoware" or Mamluk Revival style. Dimension: 4 3/4"HThe decoration is elaborate, using classic Islamic motifs. The central band features a combination of geometric patterns and arabesque or foliate designs with scalloped edges. The upper band features repeating seven-branched patterns, resembling menorahs, although they are part of a broader Islamic geometric style. The style is known as Mamluk Revival, popular in Syria and Egypt (Cairo) during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Artisans of this period recreated the luxury and skill of medieval Islamic metalwork.
