Description: Fine 19th Century French Ormolu & Bronze Mantel Clock
A well-cast and decorative 19th century French mantel clock in the Louis XVI revival style, featuring a patinated bronze putto seated among attributes of learning and exploration — including a globe, telescope, star chart, and map scroll.
The case is of white marble with finely detailed gilt bronze mounts, including floral garlands, acanthus scrolls and classical motifs.
The enamel dial has Roman numerals and blued steel hands, with two winding holes for an eight-day movement striking on a bell.
The casting is of good quality throughout, and the piece has a strong architectural presence balanced by fine detail.
Circa 1860–1880.
Dimensions: 52cm high, 46cm wide, 17cm deep.
Condition: In working order.
Old repair to one foot; crack to rear marble section; dial with expected age-related crazing.
Gilding retains an attractive tone.
A heavy and well-made piece of good decorative and academic interest.
