K. LeMoyne “Lem” Billings autographed handwritten letter, two pages written front and back on a single sheet of personal stationery, addressed to Evelyn Lincoln, President John F. Kennedy’s longtime secretary. Billings discusses mutual acquaintances and arranging a VIP White House visit for Mr. Schreiber—described as both a close friend of Joseph P. Kennedy and “a very good friend of the President.” Billings notes that Schreiber will be in Washington with his wife and children and asks that Lincoln help facilitate access to the White House, Capitol, and congressional offices. He mentions Ted Reardon coordinating part of the visit and adds personal details about the Schreiber family, closing warmly with “Best, KLB.”
Fine condition.
Provenance: From the personal files of Evelyn Lincoln, Kennedy’s longtime secretary; later part of the Robert L. White Museum Collection—one of the most respected and comprehensive JFK archives ever assembled.
K. LeMoyne Billings (1914–1981) was one of John F. Kennedy’s closest lifelong friends, having met JFK at Choate in 1933. A regular presence in the Kennedy homes and on family trips, Billings served as an informal adviser, speech assistant, and trusted confidant throughout JFK’s political rise. Deeply embedded in Kennedy circles from the Senate years through the White House, he remained close to Jacqueline Kennedy and the family long after the assassination. His personal correspondence with Evelyn Lincoln offers rare insight into the inner workings and social dynamics surrounding the Kennedy presidency.
