Details:
Pamela Turnure autographed typed letter on official stationery headed “Mrs. John F. Kennedy,” dated July 7, 1965, addressed to Mr. J. William Schmalz of Delray Beach, Florida. The letter responds to a request for Kennedy commemorative stamps to be signed by Caroline and John Kennedy.
In the letter, Turnure explains that while Mrs. Kennedy herself was pleased to sign the stamps previously sent, she did not permit her children to do so, stating that they were “too young to appreciate and understand the meaning of such things.” The letter concludes with an expression of sympathy and best wishes on Mrs. Kennedy’s behalf.
The letter is boldly signed in ink by Pamela Turnure above her typed designation as Secretary to Mrs. Kennedy. The content provides a revealing glimpse into Jacqueline Kennedy’s protective approach toward her children and her careful control over autograph requests in the years following President Kennedy’s assassination.
Fine condition.
