The verso bears a handwritten notation by Mary Gallagher identifying the subject as “Evelyn Lincoln at her desk, Executive Office Bldg.” The photograph originates from the estate of Mary Gallagher.

Evelyn Lincoln (1921–1995) served as John F. Kennedy’s personal secretary from his years in the U.S. Senate through his presidency, becoming one of the closest and most trusted members of his staff. Often referred to as the guardian of Kennedy’s papers and correspondence, Lincoln played a vital role in preserving the historical record of the Kennedy administration and later assisted historians and biographers with firsthand insight into JFK’s presidency.
