Kennedy following his assassination. Press stamps and editorial markings on verso, dated March 17, 1964
Six White Horses was a 26-page illustrated book written by Candy Geer, a high school student from Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Geer composed the poem on the evening of President Kennedy’s funeral—November 25, 1963—writing from the imagined perspective of young John F. Kennedy, Jr. The book’s black-and-white illustrations were created by fellow student Leslie Bennett of Detroit. Produced by Charles Manos and Lauren Wild and published by M & W Quill Publishing Co. of Ann Arbor, it carries a copyright date of March 1964 and was lithographed by Braun-Brumfield, Inc. The poignant tribute captures the national grief of the moment and the tender bond between the late president and his son.
