Kennedy & Mercury Seven astronauts original 10 x 8” double-weight silver gelatin photograph, depicting President Kennedy meeting with key NASA astronauts during a visit to inspect the Mercury space capsule. Several of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, including Gus Grissom, are visible engaged in conversation with JFK beside the open spacecraft hatch.

Fine condition.

Affixed to the lower margin of the photograph are two First Day of Issue postage stamps: the Project Mercury commemorative stamp and the John F. Kennedy memorial stamp, both postmarked May 29, 1964—JFK’s birthday. A rare and evocative convergence of the American space program and presidential legacy.
