Kennedy original 10 x 8” black-and-white press photograph depicting President Kennedy addressing microphones while formally welcoming Sylvanus Olympio, President of the Federal Republic of Togo, following an Armed Forces full-honor arrival ceremony. Standing behind and alongside Kennedy are senior U.S. officials including General George H. Decker, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army; Acting Secretary of the Army Elvis J. Stahr Jr.; and Chief of Protocol Angier Biddle Duke. Kennedy is shown holding his hat as he speaks, with Olympio standing to his left.
The verso bears the original typed U.S. Army Signal Corps caption dated March 20, 1962, Washington, D.C., identifying the event, individuals present, and photographer credit to PFC Kenneth W. Puckett, Signal Support Unit, Pictorial Division, U.S. Army. Also present is the official Signal Corps Photographic Laboratory stamp with publication and usage notice, confirming this as an authentic government-issued press photograph.
