James W. Altgens autographed 6 x 4” card, neatly signed in black ink and inscribed with his printed title, “AP Photographer on the scene, Nov. 22, 1963.” Altgens was the Associated Press photojournalist who captured some of the most famous and harrowing images of the Kennedy assassination in Dealey Plaza, including the moment of the fatal shot. His eyewitness photographs became critical pieces of evidence in the Warren Commission’s investigation.

James W. Altgens (1919–1995) was a photojournalist and Associated Press wire service photographer present in Dealey Plaza during President John F. Kennedy’s assassination. His images were among the first to reach the public and remain key historical records of that tragic day.
