John F. Kennedy commemorative dinner plate produced in honor of the Inter-American Press Association Dinner held at the Hotel Americana, Miami Beach, on November 18, 1963—President Kennedy’s final official dinner. This example is from a later-produced edition created to commemorate the event and was not part of the tableware used during the actual dinner, though it is identical in every respect aside from the verso marking.
The cobalt-blue porcelain plate measures approximately 10.5 inches in diameter and is bordered and accented in gilt. The center displays the Presidential Seal, surrounded by the coats of arms of the fourteen member nations represented in the Inter-American Press Association. The underside bears the Syracuse China mark, “7-MM / Syracuse China / U.S.A.” Syracuse China was a premier supplier of fine commercial and institutional china throughout the mid-20th century.
Fine condition.
On November 18, 1963—just four days before his assassination—President Kennedy addressed the Inter-American Press Association on the future of democracy in the Western Hemisphere, with particular focus on Cuba and the Alliance for Progress. In his remarks, Kennedy emphasized the failures of authoritarian regimes and reaffirmed the promise of democratic progress, making this dinner one of the final public expressions of his foreign policy vision.
