Details:
John F. Kennedy autographed child’s plaster arm cast. Kennedy signed this cast in blue ballpoint pen while campaigning for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. The cast is housed in a custom shadowbox display and represents one of the more unusual and personal Kennedy-signed artifacts encountered, with the unconventional surface accounting for the atypical signature characteristics.
The display is accompanied by a xerox copied photograph showing Kennedy signing a young boy’s cast, along with a letter signed in 1999 by both the original recipient and his mother. The letter documents that Kennedy signed the cast on October 17, 1958, while campaigning in Whitman, Massachusetts, and confirms that a news photographer recorded the moment. The recipient further attests that the cast present is the same one signed by the future president.
The Kennedy signature remains clearly identifiable despite being light and slightly irregular, as expected given the plaster medium.
