Details:
Abraham Zapruder autographed First Day Cover honoring John F. Kennedy, issued May 29, 1964, on the official U.S. Postal Service memorial stamp commemorating the late president. The cover features the black-bordered “In Memoriam” cachet with Kennedy’s portrait, dates 1917–1963, and the quote “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country,” alongside the First Day of Issue cancellation from Boston, Massachusetts.
Zapruder has signed the cover in black ballpoint pen. As the individual who captured the assassination of President Kennedy on film in Dallas on November 22, 1963, Zapruder’s signature is exceptionally scarce and historically significant, particularly on Kennedy-related material. Autographed examples of First Day Covers by Zapruder are rarely encountered and are highly sought after by collectors of JFK assassination history and presidential memorabilia.
Fine condition.
Abraham Zapruder (1905–1970) was a Dallas-based dress manufacturer whose name became permanently linked to American history on November 22, 1963, when he inadvertently captured the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on 8mm color motion picture film while standing in Dealey Plaza. Zapruder’s film, consisting of 486 frames, remains the most complete visual record of the assassination and has been studied exhaustively by government investigators, historians, forensic experts, and journalists. Though he never sought public attention, Zapruder was thrust into the national spotlight in the aftermath of the assassination and cooperated fully with authorities. His decision to allow the film to be used for investigative purposes while restricting its sensational exploitation reflected his deeply held personal ethics. Zapruder’s signature is scarce due to his limited public life and early death, and items bearing his autograph—especially those directly connected to President Kennedy—are among the most historically significant and desirable artifacts associated with the assassination era.
