John F. Kennedy autographed one-page typed lyrics sheet from his 1960 presidential campaign song “High Hopes,” inscribed at upper right, “For Dorothy / from / John Kennedy.” The lyrics are adapted from Frank Sinatra’s popular recording and reference Kennedy’s candidacy during the 1960 election cycle. The sheet measures approximately 8.5 x 11 inches and is folded into quarters.
"Jack Kennedy
High Hopes
Everyone is voting for Jack
'Cause he's got what all the rest lack
Everyone wants to back -- Jack
Jack is on the right track.
'Cause he's got high hopes
He's got high hopes
Nineteen Sixty's the year for his high hopes.
Come on and vote for Kennedy
Vote for Kennedy
And we'll come out on top!
Oops, there goes the opposition - ker -
Oops, there goes the opposition - ker -
Oops, there goes the opposition - KERPLOP!
K--E--DOUBLE N--E--D--Y
Jack's the nation's favorite guy
Everyone wants to back -- Jack
Jack is on the right track.
'Cause he's got high hopes
He's got high hopes
Nineteen Sixty's the year for his high hopes.
Come on and vote for Kennedy
Vote for Kennedy
Keep America strong.
Kennedy, he just keeps rollin' - a -
Kennedy, he just keeps rollin' - a -
Kennedy, he just keeps rollin' along."
Expected age-related wear is present, including light smudging along the right edge, minor adhesive residue and small paper loss along the top verso, and soft handling wear consistent with campaign-era ephemera.
During the 1960 campaign, John F. Kennedy benefited from the enthusiastic public support of Frank Sinatra, who adapted his 1959 hit “High Hopes” into a campaign anthem. The original song, written by James Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn, appeared in the film A Hole in the Head and later became synonymous with Kennedy’s youthful, optimistic image. Sinatra actively campaigned for Kennedy, performing at rallies, recording radio spots, and singing at the star-studded pre-Inaugural gala in 1961.
Kennedy narrowly won the 1960 presidential election, defeating Richard Nixon by a slim popular vote margin while securing a decisive Electoral College victory. Although Kennedy and Sinatra’s relationship later cooled during the presidency, this signed campaign lyric sheet remains a vivid artifact from one of the most culturally influential presidential campaigns in American history.
