Charlie Duke autographed oversized 20 x 16” color photograph depicting President John F. Kennedy delivering his historic September 12, 1962 “We choose to go to the Moon” speech at Rice University, the address that publicly committed the United States to the Apollo lunar landing program. Duke has boldly signed and inscribed the photograph in silver ink at right, quoting Kennedy’s famous words in full and adding his designation: “Charlie Duke – Apollo 16 Moonwalker.”

The image captures Kennedy at the podium before a packed stadium, a defining visual moment in the Space Race and one of the most influential speeches of the 20th century. Charles Moss Duke Jr. (b. 1935) is a former NASA astronaut, U.S. Air Force officer, and test pilot who served as Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM) for Apollo 10 and Apollo 11, famously relaying the first words spoken on the Moon to Neil Armstrong. In 1972, Duke flew as Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 16, becoming the tenth—and youngest—person to walk on the lunar surface. His signature on Kennedy imagery is especially meaningful, as Duke was among the astronauts who ultimately fulfilled the Moon landing challenge Kennedy set in motion.
