WW Greener Mark III "EG" 14GA Shotgun & Shells - SN#41007, imported SARCO, circa 1922, single shot barrel modified Martini Henry action. At the time in Egypt, corruption was on the forefront, frequently criminals would pay policemen to ''borrow'' their guns to commitcrimes. To prevent unauthorized use, the Mk III was developed. The Mk III the striker has three separate points instead of a single firing pin. The center projection was the firing pin, but in order for it to work, thetwo outer pins had to fit into an annular groove in the base of the 14GA Greener cartridges. This change prevented criminals from using standard ammunition in the guns. Mk III guns were produced in 14 bore thattakes a special bottlenecked cartridge that had a 12 bore base, but necked down to 14 bore. All cartridges have a annular groove in the base to function in the police gun. Receiver marked on left: '' W.W GREENER.MAKER PATENT.
