Prideaux John Selby's Illustrations of British Ornithology was published in Edinburgh from 1821 to 1834. It consisted of 222 large-scale engravings that were beautifully engraved by Selby himself. In the early 20th century - acclaimed antique print collector, Paul Victorius of Charlottesville, VA purchased many of these original copper plates from Europe and created restrikes and had them beautifully hand colored. This engraving stems from that collection. Excellent condition with bright hand coloring on heavy paper. Dimensions: 15 3/4 x 21"
