Description
Wonderful 19th Century French Christofle Silver Plate Warmer or Epergne! This beautiful piece was found in Paris over 30 years ago. It has four ornate feet and two ornate handles. It has a Monogram of "EA" on one side as seen in the photos.
Originally, it was a plate warmer. When found it did not have the insert that sits in the piece to warm a plate on. This piece makes a lovely Epergne (a centerpiece that can be used to hold fruit, vegetables or flowers).
Based on the Christofle markings on the bottom, it was made between 1844-1862 by Charles Christofle. It has 41% silver content. The item number of "22576" shows that it was made during the 1840's because Christofle made about 16,000 pieces of Hollowware each year during the period and sequentially numbered each piece.
It is in very good condition and has several minor dents and scratches as a result of age and normal use. This piece would make a great addition to a French Country, English, Shabby Chic, Traditional, or Rustic decor!
The piece measures 12.75" Wide x 9.375" Deep x 4.5" Tall. It weighs 40.40 ounces or 1145 grams.
