
A Worcester dessert dish and a Bloor Derby armorial dish from the Earl Ferrers service, circa 1770 and 1825-30 Of shaped oval form, the first painted with panels of flowers edged with gilt scrollwork and reserved on a scale blue ground, 27.2cm wide, square mark, the other painted to the centre with a spray of flowers, the deep underglaze blue border gilt with neoclassical ornament and containing four scrolled panels, three painted with flowers, the fourth with the arms of Earl Ferrers and the motto 'HONOR VIRTUTIS PRAEMIUM', within a gilded and gadrooned rim, 28.2cm wide, Bloor Derby mark printed in red (2) Footnotes: Provenance Shaw Collection The armorial dish is part of a service which must have been ordered by either the 8th or the 9th Earl, as the 8th Earl died in February 1830. The centrepiece from the service is illustrated by John Twitchett, Derby Porcelain (1980), p.205, col. pl.185, where the painting is attributed to John Hancock Junior.
