Description
Erro (Guðmundur Guðmundsson, born 1932) Untitled, mixed media on canvas, original and one-of-a-kind painting by a highly regarded international artist, 51x62 cm, the painting is signed and dated on the back of the work. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and signed by the artist. He is a major Icelandic-European artist who has been active since the 1950s and is considered one of the most important pop art and neo-pop artists in Europe. His work relies on complex visual collages that combine comics, politics, propaganda, classical art and popular culture, while creating a visual overload that criticizes power relations, media and ideology. Erro draws his inspiration from diverse sources—surrealist art, German photomontage, American comic aesthetics and 20th century political imagery. He has presented numerous solo exhibitions in leading museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, Reykjavík Art Museum and the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, and has received wide recognition, including the Icelandic Cultural Prize (1982), and international recognition as one of the most incisive visual critics of his generation. His work continues to influence contemporary artists working in collage, image consumption, and mass culture.
